Travel Time

Hi all. I said yesterday that I would write about what we did. So, here we go...

Sunday, September 5th, 2010. Location: L´Escala, Spain. To read about L´Escala

So we went to the church that my reletives go to. Interesting little place. The pastor is 81 years old, and he looks and acts like he´s 60. There were about 50 people there, and I´ll post some pictures when I can. The pastor talked, and pointed out that there were ¨Americans, Germans, Russians, and Spainards, and we were all worshiping God together.¨ I thought that was pretty cool. Then we sang, and my dad got up and introduced our family. After that, there was the sermon, and communion. All in all, it was a fun experiance. After we left the church, some of us went back to the house to change. Then my Aunt and I went shopping in the market that the locals set up under tents, and awnings. Some of it was pretty cool stuff. I´ll be posting pictures and talking about what´s in them. Right now, the pictures are on my Aunts iPhone. That thing has a sweet camera!

Then we came back to eat lunch have a siesta. After we all woke up, we went to see the Ancient Greek and Roman Ruins, which date back to 580 B.C. Part of that was the ancient town of Empúries, which is located on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Empúries was founded in 575 BC by Greek colonists from Phocaea with the name of Εμπόριον (Emporion — "market"). It was later occupied by the Romans, but in the Early Middle Ages, when its exposed coastal position left it open to marauders, the town was abandoned. The ruins are midway between the Costa Brava town of L'Escala and the tiny village of Sant Martí.

Something that I´ve found interesting about Europe is the mixture of ancient and modern arcatecture. You don´t really see that in America.

Ok, now back to today. We´re leaving L´Escala, and driving down to Totosa. Depending on traffic, it´ll be about a three hour trip. I hopefully will be able to upload pictures from there. We´ll see.

Well, I guess that about wraps it up for now. I´ll be updating whenever I can.

Gavin
