The Journey

Hello friends. Well, we are in Spain! We flew into Barcelona this morning, then my uncle drove us to L'Escala, which is about 45 min south of France. The house we are staying in is beautiful. So is the town. Don't worry, I'm posting pictures.

Here we go, a recap of the day: our flight from Phillidelphia to Frankfurt landed about 5:40 a.m. or so, and left about 8:45 a.m. both local time, which is 6 hours ahead of the Eastern Standard Time. From there we had a connecting flight to Barcelona which got there about 10:20 - 10:40. Kinda fuzzy, can't really remember. Dont judge, I'm running on about 5 hours or less of sleep in the past 60 hours. Can you say CAFFINE?? ok, back on track. We arrived in L'Escala about noon or so. got settled in and then ate lunch about 2:30. Really good lunch by the way. Spagetti bake with bread and salad. I didn't know that I was that hungry till I started eating.

Then after we finished lunch, and digested a bit, my Aunt Barbara and I went for a walk down to the beach. We walked past all the little shops selling nicknacks and tourist stuff. And on the way back, we stopped for ice cream cones. (really good ice cream cones!)

WARNING: RABBIT TRAIL AHEAD. CONTROLLED IN PARENTHESIS. (of course, after a couple of minutes, as i was using the small spoon to eat the ice cream
down to a managable size, the top scoop starts to slide off, and i grip the the cone to balance it back out. yep, you guessed right. the cone breaks. just my luck, right? at least i didn't lose any of the ice cream.) ok, back to the story.

So as we're walking and talking and eating our ice cream, we're above the rocky part of the beach. then we turn around and start walking back, having just completed a big L shape around the beach, the street that we took to the beach feeding into the bottom/foot part of the L shape. Well, instead of taking that street back, we take the next street over. and go up the hill. And after about ten minutes of walking, look around and say, "Wait, I don't think we're in the right place. go a couple blocks over." We do.
"Nope, still not looking right." We go up and over a couple more blocks. "Ok, I think we need to turn around." I told my Aunt,
"We should walk back down the hill to the  beach, and then find the road we came up on."
"No way.I'm not gonna walk all the way back down to the beach!" so we keep walking. Then we pass the street to the house about 3 or 4 times without knowing it. to put it in a nutshell, we were lost. so we walked and talked for about 2 hours. So we finally go back down to the beach, follow the road we took back up the hill. (we knew it was the right street, 'cause we had made a comment on the go kart place on the way down.) Thats when we realized that we'd come up this street looking for the house, saw the intersection, and said, "Na, this cant be it!" we also had come across the hill on the same street on the other side of the intersection. Did the same thing.
Well, longer story shorter, we made it back to the house.
What a memory tho. walking through the streets of Spain, eating ice cream cones, and having a good old time poking fun at ourselves.

To wrap it up, the rest of the family is out for a walk, except Nik, who's asleep on the couch, Aunt Barbara, Aunt Marisa and her sister, and my cousin Crystal. Oh, and me of course, writing this blog post. I'll be posting pictures after this, sometime tonight.

P.S.
They just got back.

  1. Hey Gavin! Do you have to speak Spanish there, or are there English speaking people where y'all are staying? I'm glad everyone seems to be enjoying themselves! What is the weather like there? It's starting to feel fallish here. ~Kelsey
